Tip Tuesday – Pineapple Express

I don’t know about you, but my lips get SO dry during these winter months, so much so that even lip balm won’t do the trick.   Try rubbing a fresh slice of pineapple over your lips.  The bromelain in pineapple breaks down the dry skin cells to reveal the softer skin underneath.  As a bonus, pineapple is known to improve digestion, so when you’re done with your lips – eat it!  Got to love these double duty products!

Tip Tuesday – Fresh Breath & No Blisters?

I love products that do “double duty”.  Did you know that antibacterial mouthwash can help heal your blisters faster?  Apparently, the thymol that’s contained in mouthwash is a powerful healing ingredient.  Just put some mouthwash on a cotton ball and apply to your blister several times a day until healed.  Your feet will be “heel-ready” in no time!

Tip Tuesday – Oh Baby!

Remember the days when baby oil was used for tanning?  Well, with zero SPF, it is no longer an acceptable “tanning” lotion, but it is a great substitute for shaving cream.  Just smooth on your legs in the shower and razor away.  You’ll get a close shave, and your legs will feel like silk!  Rinse your razor thoroughly when finished.

Product Review – L’Oreal Go 360 Clean vs. Garnier Skin Renew Brusher Gel-Cleanser

If you read women’s magazines, I’m sure you’ve seen the ads for this product.  L’Oreal Go 360 Clean is a facial cleanser that comes with a tool called a “scrublet”.  The scrublet attaches to the bottle and you just simply pop it off the bottle when you want to use it.  Just wet your face, wet the scrublet, apply a small amount of the cleanser, and wash your face.  I have sensitive skin, and before I tried the product, I was concerned that the scrublet might be too harsh on my skin, but no, it was just perfect!  It felt like a gentle, but good exfoliating cleanse.  I definitely had a nice glow after using it.  Another thing I liked was that you only have to use a very small amount of product to get a good foam.  The bottle of cleanser will definitely last a long time.  Whether or not I continue using the actual face cleanser (the cleanser is fine by the way), I will definitely continue using the scrublet because it would work fine with any cleanser.   This product comes in four formulas for different skin types.  I used the sensitive skin formula with the blue scrublet.  I highly recommend this product!

Garnier has come out with it’s own version of a cleanser/brush combo.  It’s called Garnier Skin Renew The Brusher Gel-Cleanser.  I did not like this at all.  The bottle has a brush on top that is not removable.  You squeeze the bottle to get the cleanser to come up to the brush.  Then you hold the bottle and clean you face with the brush/bottle.  Too cumbersome and messy.  The actual cleanser was fine, just not the set-up with the attached brush.  Also, the brush was not nearly as nice as the L’Oreal scrublet.  I love most of the Garnier line, but unfortunately I cannot recommend this product.

Back to Basics – Cetaphil

I try a lot of different skin care products.  One I always go back to is Cetaphil.  Cetaphil is a basic, gentle cleanser for the face.  Nothing fancy, and it works on all types of skin.  It works especially well on dry, sensitive skin.  It’s reasonably priced (around $10) for a large pump bottle.  I recently got a pack of two at Costco for around $8.00 (great deal!).  I use it morning and evening.  Since it has no exfoliating properties, I also do an exfoliating scrub a couple of time a week, just to get the dead skin off.

Tip Tuesday – Skin So Soft

Here’s another product that helps with dry skin this time of year – Aveeno Moisturing Shower & Bath Oil.  This stuff is incredible!  I use it just before I’m getting out of the shower (after I’ve shampooed and washed), and I also use it when I take a bath.  If you have really dry skin I wouldn’t say this takes the place of lotion, but used in addition to body lotion – it works great!
